We are star stuff & we’ve got to get our selves back to the garden: Tüli Morris-Merkel

We are star stuff is a scrappy, playful stop-motion animation that recycles the same tourist gift shop Australian flag we all know so well into what every living, breathing organism transforms into eventually… Compost.
This flag removes the traditional Union Jack, but keeps the southern cross stars, recycling them and creating a solar system of organic stars. In response to Australia’s continual
burying of its colonial past this work acts as a rotting of a ritual, its colourful but raw movements animate what it means to be living. Embracing the act of giving oxygen to new ideas and identity outside of these flags cultural understanding.
Reflecting on how we digest imperialism’s past and how we step outside of these old representations into a future that includes everyone.
