Workshop and Concert: A World of Song

Old Bellerive Library, 59 Cambridge Road

Workshop 2.30pm Concert 6.30pm, 17 November 2018

A World of Song workshop and concert offers you a chance to relax and sing out, no matter what your musical background or level of experience. You don’t have to be able to read music or know other languages.

The workshop director and conductor of Sisongke Choir, Lyndall Edwards (above), will make sure you leave your cares behind and be your guide as you:

* Learn simple tips and techniques for making the most of your voice – on the day and in the days to come

* Share music with local Hobart groups drawn from many cultural backgrounds

* Learn and perform some terrific, inspirational music from around the world.

You can also just book concert-only tickets and listen to world music. Come and see performers from across Hobart including from the workshop perform songs from Africa, Europe and Asia. Other performers are from Sisongke Choir, Mile Milo (French) led by Lili Calitz, and The Multicultural Choir (African, Indian, Australian) led by John Kamara.

What is in the workshop package?

If you participate in the workshop you will have the opportunity to perform in the evening concert event and again on the following morning at the Farmers’ Market in Bathurst Street.

Both performances will include beautiful songs from Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia and all of the workshop participants will feature in three of the pieces presented.

If you don’t want to perform at the concert, your workshop ticket includes a free ticket to the concert.

About Lyndall Edwards

Lyndall Edwards began her voice studies in Hobart and completed them at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. She has been conducting community choirs for over twenty years and has conducted the Hobart choir, Sisongke, for nine of those years.

Singing can be a daunting process for many of us. Lyndall is able to help you let go and sing without you even realising it – and you’ll probably laugh a lot along the way. Beginners may find themselves going from zero to vocal hero over the course of the day, and more experienced singers will find new tricks and tools to add to their vocal collection.

Everything that Lyndall teaches can be used in other ways, including easing anxiety, speaking more confidently in public and to gain postural and physical confidence.
