Sharny Russell is one of Australia’s most seasoned and respected jazz musicians, known for her compelling originals and arrangements, joyful stage presence, wonderful intimacy with the audience, and is arguably one of Australia’s most elite scat singers.
When it comes to Blossom Dearie and Sharny Russell, there is an affinity that can’t be ignored. As a starting-out jazz artist in her early 20’s in Adelaide, Sharny was constantly likened to the iconic, almost cult figure of the French and American jazz worlds, who was known for performing her quirky songs for delighted audiences in small jazz clubs. Sharny thrills with wild scatting escapades and pulsing latin rhythm forays, but she can still turn out a Blossom tune that closely resembles the real thing.
Sharny Russell will pay tribute to Blossom Dearie in two wonderful shows in the Jazz Lounge in the Rosny Barn:
