Thursday – Sunday, 11am – 4pm, 07 Sep - 06 Oct 2024

Introducing SITE: Richmond. A thoughtful and immersive public art experience featuring diverse new works by eight acclaimed Tasmanian artists.

SITE, or Something In The Exchange, re-examines perceptions of this iconic Tasmanian town – its past, its present, and its future – through a layering of diverse perspectives, concerns, and sensibilities. Spanning multiple locations across Richmond, this exhibition offers an opportunity to engage with the multifaceted histories, legacies, and contradictions present in the town today.

Join Clarence City Council Mayor Brendan Blomeley for the Official Opening of this exciting project on Saturday 7 September at 12pm behind the Richmond Village Green. All are welcome.

Visiting SITE: Richmond

The exhibition is held across multiple sites around Richmond.

To get started, grab a catalogue from the exhibition hub behind the Richmond Village Green.

Some artists are working in one space, and some works cover multiple locations. The catalogue has a map with all works marked.

Featuring:

  • Amber Koroluk-Stephenson: Explore the darker undercurrents of Richmond Gaol through intricate collages and disused road signs.
  • Angus Thornett: Discover the hidden stories of Richmond through self-narrated documentaries in Margaret Mitchell Garden.
  • Brigita Ozolins: Challenge your perceptions with installations using braille and rose coloured lenses in various locations.
  • Eloise Daintree: Reflect on personal connections and memories of Richmond with playful installations around the town.
  • George Kennedy: Interact with evolving artworks at St Luke’s Anglican Church, inspired by desire lines and local landscapes.
  • Mary Scott: Delve into the haunting past of Richmond’s old bakery with site-specific works using charcoal and found materials.
  • Nunami Sculthorpe-Green: Experience the contrast between Aboriginal stories and colonial narratives at the Richmond Court House.
  • Selena de Carvalho: Wander through Richmond’s lesser-known paths with participatory installations and aromatic experiences.

“Something In The Exchange was prompted by the hope of a shift. That we will take time to respond to and reconsider this beautiful, complex, confusing, confronting place over the past 200 years and millennia beyond. The power of art is in making our unseen or ignored connections more visible.” – Jade Irvine, Curator of SITE: Richmond.
