Walk for Mental Health
Mental Health Week is part of a national mental health promotion campaign held in October each year, and incorporates World Mental Health Day, held globally on 10 October. The purpose of this awareness week is to engage communities in activities that promote mental health and wellbeing and also increase understanding and reduce stigma about mental illness, and how it impacts on the lives of people in our community.
In 2024, the theme for Mental Health Week is ‘Appreciate the little things’.
Sharing a smile with a stranger, spending time in the garden, hearing your favourite song on the radio…
What are the things that give you a glimmer of calm and peace on a busy day? The small moments that wouldn’t make the news, but make you feel good?
Having coffee with an old friend, watching a breathtaking sunset, listening to birds singing in the trees… Or going for a walk?
This Mental Health Week, take a minute to appreciate the little things. Come with us and walk from Simmons Park along our beautiful foreshore – a 2.5 k round trip. When you arrive back, reward yourself with a free BBQ, ice cream and coffee while you sing along with Maddie Anderson-Ward and dance with Pratik from Rhythmz Bollywood!
There will also a free friendship bracelet making stand, giant bubbles, and Sally Sunshine will be there to make children their favourite balloon animals as well.
You can even get yourself a cute little self-care pack! Come celebrate with us.
